Where is the Pacific Collection and how can I access items located there?

Answer

The Pacific Collection is based at Laucala Campus, on Level C of the library.

Pacific Collection materials can only be issued and used in the reading room on Level C. All borrowers must have a valid library ID. Visitors to USP can use the collection for ten consecutive days for a fee of $30.00. Please visit the main issue desk on Level B to pay this fee.

Due to the rare nature of these items we ask you to follow these regulations.

  • Only 1 item will be issued to you at a time.
  • You will need to provide the call number for each request and the staff member at the Pacific Collection desk will retrieve the item for you.
  • You can use the item for 3 hours at a time in the reading room. As in other rare, archival collections, bags are not allowed in the Pacific Collection -- lockers are provided to store you bags and a locker key will be issued.

Staff/faculty members may be permitted to browse the collection at certain prearranged times. Please contact the Pacific Collection Librarian for more information: https://www.usp.ac.fj/library/collections/special-collections/pacific_collection/

Please also make note that many items have duplicate copies located in the library's general collection where you'll be able to borrow the item for a minimum of 14 days; so it's worth checking in the catalogue for any general copies.
